Crafting at home:

How children create their own figures with water beads and shrink plastic

Craft projects that children can do on their own, with a little guidance from an adult, are always a hit. Here you’ll find two colourful and creative crafts with clear step-by-step instructions – perfect for children who love hands-on creativity. Choose between colouring and baking shrink plastic figures or creating designs with water beads.

  1. Colour in the design using the pencils. Let the child choose their own colours.
  2. Cut out the figure along the outline. Remember to make a hole before putting it in the oven if it’s going to be a keyring.
  3. Place the figure on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  4. Put it in the oven at 150°C for 1–3 minutes. The figure will shrink quickly.
  5. Take it out and turn the figure over. Place something heavy on top until it has cooled – this will make it completely flat.
  6. Attach the figure to the keyring using the chain..

Follow the image instructions below to make the process easier:

  1. Place the beads on the board following a pattern – or create your own designs.
  2. Gently spray with water until the entire design is covered. Use only a small amount – a little goes a long way.
  3. Leave the design to dry for at least one hour. It must be completely dry before removing it from the board.
  4. Carefully lift off the figure when it’s ready. Now it’s ready to be used as decoration or for play.
