The Lundby dollhouse was created in Sweden nearly 80 years ago. It was Grete Thomsen who, in 1947, began handcrafting dollhouses together with her husband. What started as made-to-order dollhouses has today become one of the most recognised dollhouse brands in the world.
This autumn, Lundby takes the next step with an update to the classic Swedish dollhouse. The new collection consists of two dollhouses: Star, a new version of the classic two-storey house, and Wonder, a brand-new three-storey house. At the same time, Lundby introduces Miniverse, a new world of miniatures that broadens Lundby’s range.
More attention to detail in Lundby’s new dollhouses
The Swedish heritage runs through everything from Lundby’s Scandinavian design sensibility to its choice of materials and the way it creates settings that feel both contemporary and timeless. Micki’s design team has reviewed the houses’ construction, materials and expression. Windows and rear panels have been given more care, and the wallpapers are hand-drawn with unique patterns that give each house its own character and add more details to discover. These small details have always been a key part of the Lundby experience.
”When we create toys, we always start by looking at the child’s needs. The child’s needs are, after all, the whole reason the toy should exist in the first place. We develop every toy with great care and consideration, for the child and for the future. That’s what it takes to create a fun, developmentally engaging product that lasts for many, many years.”
Anne Arvgrim, Design Manager, Micki
The dollhouses and Miniverse products will be available for purchase from September on Micki’s website and at selected retailers.
Swedish toy company Micki carries the tradition forward
Since 1997, Swedish toy company Micki has manufactured Lundby’s dollhouses. Micki is a family-owned company founded in 1944, with deep roots in Scandinavian toy-making tradition. The company is based in the forests of Småland in southern Sweden. Here, surrounded by nature and a culture of craftsmanship, the work continues to shape dollhouses with the same care and attention to detail the brand has always stood for.
Every toy Micki creates is developed with great love and care for the little people who will play with them. Micki develops toys for its own well-loved brands Micki, Lundby, Skrållan and Rubens Barn, as well as beloved characters including Pippi Longstocking, Bluey and PAW Patrol.
