Fun yarn crafts for children:

Weaving, stitching and making pom-poms

When children get to create with yarn, it often becomes both playful and educational. Here you’ll find three different craft ideas where yarn takes centre stage – all with simple instructions suitable for children from around 5 years and up. Choose between weaving figures, stitching cross stitch or making your own pom-poms.

1.     Thread the warp: Pull the warp thread back and forth through the holes in the figure.

2.     Prepare the yarn: Thread the yarn through the needle.

3.     Weave: Go over-under with the yarn through the warp threads, row by row.

4.     Change colour: Cut the yarn and tie on the next colour.

5.     Secure the yarn ends: When the weaving is finished, tie off the thread at the back.

Follow the image instructions below to make the process easier:

1.     Thread the needle with a piece of yarn.

2.     Start in a corner: Push the needle up through a hole and make a cross.

3.     Continue stitching: Follow the pattern or create your own.

4.     Change colour as needed and secure the thread at the back when finished.

Follow the image instructions below to make the process easier:

1.     Wrap the yarn: Wind the yarn around both halves of the pom-pom template.

2.     Cut open: Cut along the edges on both sides.

3.     Tie together: Use an extra piece of yarn and tie tightly in the centre.

4.     Trim: Cut the pom-pom until it’s even and round.
